SubhanAllah. Let’s see how this creature of Allah teaches us to have haya’. Let’s see how beautiful haya’ is when practiced truthfully.
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “Faith (Belief) consists of more than sixty branches (i.e. parts). And Haya (This term “Haya” covers a large number of concepts which are to be taken together; amongst them are self respect, modesty, bashfulness, and scruple, etc.) is a part of faith.” (Sahih Bukhari [2:8])
The highest level is to have haya’ of Allah, being aware not to disobey Him in any situation, even within our hearts.
The next level would be to have haya’ with others, not to offend others. Translated somtimes as “shyness” or “bashfulness”. As I’ve been taught, those words dont cover the meaning of Haya’.
Please share your thoughts, reflections, and what you’ve learned in the comments section insha Allah.
May Allah increase us all in haya’ . Ameen ya Rabb.
I went to his very last present Public lecture, July 2008, during the ICNA convention, anyone else did, too? This year felt like so much barakah in it,
In Mokhtar’s lecture, I remember he said to lower your gaze and have haya, because when you don’t, and you’re thinkin bad things, you don’t know that it show’s in your face. And you can look ugly, but that was so funny though, lol!
